Short description:
The story began in 1892. It was the day when the Urşianu family built the house in the basement of which there is the old wine cellar. While vineyards have always been present in this area, winemaking tradition had been interrupted for a long time. Our story began in 2003, when our current team took over the winery and did their best to resurrect wine tradition in Dragasani, Sparleni.
"A wine for everyone" is our primary belief, people are different and so are wines. Our goal is not to create a pleasant wine that everybody loves, but to create a variety of wines, each dedicated to specific personal tastes. We do not believe in absolute standards, we are ready to produce strong wines, still wines, dry wines, sweet wines, rich wines, aromatic wines, all possessing our personal dose of balance, and for each wine we have chosen one or many varieties to represent them.
At this point Spârleni Winery means about 30 hectares of vines at Dragasani and Gusoieni, 90 000 liters of wine annually, 40 000 bottles of wine with controlled designation of origin, Drăgăşani, and figures are growing. Old vines date back to 1987, the area having Feteasca Regala and Cramposie Selectionata, but recently we have cultivated Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tamaioasă Romaneasca, Feteasca Neagra, Chardonnay and Negru de Dragasani and the rejuvenation and diversification process continues. We combine here modern technology and traditional techniques, we have one of the most versatile grape presses in the country, and wines are aged in old oak barrels.
