Short description:
Domeniile Franco-Romane (DFR) represents the vision of oenologist Denis Thomas to create Romanian wines with a French touch, inspired by the terroir of Dealu Mare. Switching to organic farming in 2003, DFR obtained the certification for the first organic wine in Romania in 2006.
DFR is currently owned by the Olariu family, Romanian investors, who expanded it by incorporating 40 hectares of the “Domeniile Persu-Eminescu”, a wine-growing area of historical significance. This vineyard was owned by Mihnea Olariu’s great-grandparents, Alexandru Persu and Ecaterina Eminescu, since the 1840s. Alexandru Persu was an agronomist and former mayor of the commune of Tohani, while Ecaterina Eminescu was the granddaughter of the greatest Romanian poet Mihai Eminescu. Resigned to the Olariu family in 2002, it completes the original vineyard started by Denis Thomas.
The winery's focus is on producing premium wines, DFR capitalizes on the terroir of Dealu Mare to create high-quality wines, which reflect both tradition and innovation.
The organic farming adopted by DFR not only respects the environment, but also improves the quality of the grapes, resulting in wines with a distinctive character.
