Short description:
The story of the winery begins with a visionary in Dealu Mare, between Gura Vadului and Săhăteni, where in 2000, Denis Thomas, owner and winemaker from Burgundy, laid the foundations of the first BIO vineyard in Romania.
Assisted by a team of Romanian and French specialists, Denis Thomas takes over and develops a 45 Ha plantation, in an area of Dealu Mare, where the terroir, similar to that of Burgundy, allows the production of Romanian wines in a French spirit.
In 2020, the Domeniile Franco Române were taken over by a group of Romanian investors with a tradition in viticulture, who intend to continue the story of the Săhăteni winery and share the joy of Romanian wines with lovers of good wines.
Mihnea Mihalache and Mihnea Olariu, the two young investors, propose a new vision for the Domeniile Franco Române. Although the winery is in full rebranding process, the new investors want to honor the work of the founder Denis Thomas and to be present as soon as possible on the market of specialized stores, in the country and abroad.
Future plans include the transition of the entire vineyard to BIO culture, currently, half of the plantations are ecologically cultivated, Ecocert certified.
We support the protection of the environment and thus, a charging station for electric cars with solar energy from the panels already installed on the roof of the building has been established in the courtyard of the winery.
In addition to the renovation and modernization works already started from our own funds, we are in the process of increasing the storage and winemaking capacity of the winery through European co-financing.
Starting from 2023, the Domeniile Franco Române from Săhăteni/Dealu Mare and Château de Sannes from Luberon/Côtes du Rhône decided, by mutual agreement, to become "twin wineries". Specifically, the two wineries carry out joint projects that combine, in a creative way, BIO viticulture, oenology and marketing.
