Short description:
Located in the Northen-Eastern part of Moldavia, one of Romania’s regions, within Husi area, Averesti Winery, was the first wine – making entity made – out in Averesti village since nintenth century.
In 1874, then the landowner, Stefan Negruzzi, started a thitry hectars vineyard, with local and French wine grapes. From the same period dates the wine cellar with a 150 meters main hallway, five stone archways and ten secondary cellars, and the Averesti Manor. Time witnessed it becoming a symbol for the cellar under the wise and peaceful surveillance of a dendrological park with secular chestnut, linden and locust trees.
The first wine maker, Rene Faure, came from France to care for the domains and brought with him also some French varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Aligote to dovetail together with the Romanian authentic grapes. For higher productivity year by year, Rene Faure pioneered the first irrigation system in Romania based on a gravity pressure system in a no electricity country.
Today, the vineyard stretches on a 550 hectares surface, shared between Romanian grape varieties such as: Zghihara de Husi, Busuioaca de Bohotin, Feteasca Regala and Feteasca Alba, and international like: Sauvignon Blanc, Traminer, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The uniqueness of Averesti wines comes from the specific of the terroir and from the passion the grape is raised and protected. Due to the high altitude, the cool climate and the specificity of the soil, the wines obtained are dry, zesty with fruity flavours (specific for unoaked white wines), bright and delicate.
