BASILESCU WINERY
The Basilescu family have won their fame in the IXth C, not because they were wealthy, but due to their distinguished education. Nicolae Basilescu, born in Urlati in 1860, is the best example. He was a young man who succeeded in overcoming social barriers. He became dean at the University of Bucharest Law School and he was the one who established Bucurestii Noi neighbourhood.
Grandeur has been in the family for generations; however, they were not able to stand against the regime that followed. In 2008, a wine enthusiast meets Nicolle Catherine Marie Lydia Basilescu and after he has helped her to regain justice, they take over the family vineyards and keep the family name and traditions. This is how Basilescu Winery came to life.
"The wines made here are dedicated to Nicolle, as she is a delightful woman who has always fought for her family. The Basilescu family are people who have always gone to extremes. They have always overcome the obstacles and challenges of their era: they have built tramways, schools and churches without asking for anything in exchange. The Basilescu name is a name that is worthy of being remembered. Our winery attends to bottling history and tradition.", says Ilie Buican, winery owner.
Our wines have been created in order to hold on to that tradition:
Eclipse - glorious wines dedicated to the dark ages of the vineyard, until its revival.
Ingeri din micul Paris - homage paid to music, the people and to the the spirit of Interwar Bucharest, as well as to Capsa Hotel, the house of buoyancy during the time.
and
Golem, a metaphor of trust in one's abilities, an echo of Romanian wine.
Due to a passionate and young team, Basilescu Winery can promise to follow the tradition and create noteworthy wines.
