Romania becomes the epicenter of rosé wine in 2025 next week, in Constanța, where the first tasting session of the year for the prestigious Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB), one of the most influential wine competitions in the world, will begin. For the first time in history, Romania is hosting one of the competition’s sessions, and records are already being set: 1,250 rosé wines from 34 countries will be analyzed by nearly 70 international experts, while Romania marks an outstanding presence with 144 entries, three times more than in the previous edition.
Dobrogea in the international spotlight
Between March 28 and 30, tasters—including winemakers, sommeliers, journalists, and specialists from 19 countries—will evaluate the wines entered in the competition in a blind tasting format. Beyond the contest, the event will showcase Dobrogea’s rich winemaking and gastronomic diversity through a series of exclusive tastings, winery visits, themed dinners, and masterclasses.
Romania secures a spot among the top participating countries, alongside France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. Furthermore, Romanian rosé wines originate from all the country’s key wine regions, with Dobrogea leading the way (35.7%), followed by Moldova (16.3%), Muntenia, and Transylvania (10% each). The most popular Romanian grape variety in the competition is Pinot Noir (28.6%), followed by Cabernet Sauvignon (20.4%), Fetească Neagră and Merlot (14.3% each), along with Busuioacă de Bohotin, Blaufränkisch, Negru de Drăgășani, and Novac.
The results of the competition will be announced on April 7, 2025, on the official Concours Mondial de Bruxelles website.
The event is organized with the support of Hochland Romania, Aqua Carpatica, Wines of Romania, Sorla, SeaYou, Revino, Un Vin Pe Zi, IPPU, Hang Off, Illy, and City Grill, alongside wineries Domeniul Bogdan, Crama Rasova, Murfatlar Vinul, Alira, Jidvei, Caii de la Letea, Navigo, De Matei, Olterra, Crama Histria, Liliac, Villa Vinea, Crama La Salina, and Familia Darabont.

About Concours Mondial de Bruxelles
Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is a globally recognized benchmark in wine competitions. Its independence, strict standards, and tasting procedures ensure consumer confidence, allowing them to purchase medal-winning wines with full trust. The CMB’s rules are strict and comply with the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) regulations, limiting the number of medals to no more than 30% of the total entries.
Founded in 1994 in Brussels, Belgium, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles became a traveling competition after 20 editions, being hosted in the world’s most renowned wine regions. In 2020, CMB was divided into several sessions: one for white and red wines, one for rosé wines, one for sparkling wines, and one for sweet and fortified wines.
