From March 28-30, 2025, Romania will host for the first time one of the major competitions of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB), one of the most prestigious international wine contests. The session dedicated to rosé wines will take place in Constanța, in the Dobrogea wine region, marking a historic moment for the country's wine industry.
A competition held to the highest standards
Concours Mondial de Bruxelles maintains its international rigor in this edition, with blind tastings ensuring the objectivity of the evaluation. Carefully selected international judges will taste the wines without any identifying information other than the vintage year. The judging panels will be mixed, consisting of five or six experts, and the organizers will collaborate with the Institute of Statistics in Louvain, Belgium, for result analysis.
"For the first time, Romanian wine will benefit from a global promotion platform. CMB is not just a simple competition but a world-renowned event that attracts significant media attention. Hosting the CMB Rosé Wine Session could be a first step in building a national brand through wine, one of the few products that inherently carries information about the history, culture, economy, and traditions of its place of origin," says Valentin Ceafalau, wine specialist and initiator of the event in Constanța.
Artificial Intelligence in wine evaluation
For the first time worldwide, the judges' tasting notes will be analyzed using AI via the Winespace platform. This innovative process will allow for the creation of a detailed aromatic and taste profile for each wine, adding a new level of objectivity to the evaluation. Over the three days of the competition, an estimated 9,000 tasting notes will be generated.
The local jury
The international jury includes winemakers, sommeliers, wine critics, researchers, and industry representatives. Romania will be represented by Marina Samoilă, Marinela Ardelean, Otilia Chiriță, Diana Pavelescu, Sergiu Nedelea, Cosmin Popescu, Horia Hasnaș, Liviu Grigorică, Răzvan Macici, Cosmin Tudoran, and Cătălin Păduraru.
Beyond the competition itself, judges will have the opportunity to visit Dobrogea’s wineries, taste local wines and regional gastronomy, turning this event into a unique promotional opportunity for Romanian wines and terroir.
Wine registration
Winemakers interested in entering their rosé wines into the competition can register until March 3, 2025, directly on the official website concoursmondial.com.
